Lexington, Kentucky (March 1, 2021) – The YMCA of Central Kentucky will join a growing number of YMCAs across the country for YMCA Day of Giving, a one-day giving event on March 2, to encourage donations to your local YMCA. The YMCA of Central Kentucky has a goal of raising $10,000 on this day to support children and families in Fayette, Franklin, Scott and Jessamine Counties.
Started in 2015, YMCA Day of Giving was created by the YMCA of Northwest North Carolina and championed in 2018 by the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas. This is the second year Ys across the United States have joined forces for a one-day philanthropy event.
“YMCA Day of Giving will officially kick off the community phase of our campaign – asking members and the community for their support,” said Paula Anderson, president and CEO of the YMCA of Central Kentucky. “Our employees and volunteer board have already given $110,000 in donations to support our 2021 Annual Campaign.”
Donations to the YMCA Day of Giving, support the Y’s community outreach and make program and membership scholarships available for families who need it. Those programs include:
- Y Learning Labs
- Y Academy and After School Care
- Black Achievers
- Swim Lessons
- Youth Sports
- Summer Camps
“The Y has provided child care for my daughter during the pandemic because I am an essential worker. We have also been able to take advantage of swim lessons. My daughter started in level two lessons with little to no skills and moved to level four (able to swim the full length of the pool) using the float/swim method when she gets tired. To see her eyes light up when she finally achieved her goal of obtaining a green band to go down the slide was breathtaking. My daughter's confidence has increased and she enjoys going to Y Academy. Thank you to the staff for being her biggest cheerleaders,” said YMCA member Keziah Israel.
“I appreciate access to child care, assistance on my membership and swim lessons for my daughter. My daughter and I enjoy the sense of family. When I lost my job last year and had to discontinue child care, the YMCA director reached out to check on us and offer solutions to get me back to work. Staying employed would not have been possible without the YMCA providing child care for my daughter. Thank you for loving my daughter and myself as family,” Israel added.
