Lexington, Kentucky (January 7, 2021) – The YMCA of Central Kentucky will be opening its second Learning Lab at the Carnegie Center for Literacy and Learning located at 251 W. 2nd Street in Lexington on January 11. The YMCA Learning Labs are free for students in grades K-12 who need additional support with their non-traditional instruction (NTI).
"This collaboration will help children who might otherwise fall behind in their learning,” said Neil Chethik, Director of the Carnegie Center for Literacy and Learning. “We are excited to partner with the Y at this crucial time in our community."
The YMCA will provide staffing, programmatic guidance, curriculum, and enrichment activities while the Carnegie Center provides physical space, furniture, computers, Wi-Fi, and translation services (as needed).
The hours for the Learning Lab at the Carnegie Center will be Monday-Thursday from 4:30-7 p.m. The Y will be hosting an orientation at the Carnegie Center on January 7 from 4:30-7 p.m. for interested families to sign up onsite.
“The Y has and always will rise to meet the needs of our community,” said Paula Anderson, president and CEO of the YMCA of Central Kentucky. This pandemic has added complexity for families with children learning from home. These Learning Labs and new partnerships are helping to fill those gaps by providing safe and supportive environments for children.”
The YMCA’s first Learning Lab opened in mid-November in partnership with the Lexington Public Library at the Village Branch location and currently still has openings.
