Today, the YMCA of Central Kentucky announced its participation in the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) and its At-Risk Afterschool Meals Program.
“The YMCA is proud to participate in these CACFP programs,” said Paula Anderson, chief operating officer of the YMCA of Central Kentucky. “Our goal is simple: to meet the nutritional needs of children in our care.
“Additionally, the program will help us promote understanding of the role of nutrition in physical, mental and social health and help develop positive food attitudes and eating behaviors,” Anderson added.
The CACFP provides nutritious meals and snacks to qualifying participants attending the Y. The CACFP uses Income Eligibility Guidelines for Free and Reduced-Price Meals to determine each participant’s eligibility.
The YMCA of Central Kentucky’s participation includes the CACFP’s At-Risk Afterschools Meals program, which provides, at no cost, snacks and meals to children at designated locations in low-income areas where schools have at least 50% free and reduced lunch programs for enrolled students. All At-Risk Afterschool meals are reimbursed at the free reimbursement rate.
CACFP is federally funded through the USDA, and is administered by the Kentucky Department of Education, Division of School and Community Nutrition.
