YMCA of Central Kentucky President and CEO, David Martorano, Steps Down; Paula Anderson named Chief Operating Officer
Martorano begins new role with YMCA of the USA later this year
The YMCA of Central Kentucky today announced that its president and CEO, David Martorano, will step down from his role on Nov.1. Martorano has led the organization since January 2013. He will be moving into a new position as vice president, Thriving Ys with the YMCA of the USA (Y-USA) in early November.
Paula Anderson, who has held the position as the YMCA of Central Kentucky’s chief administrative officer since 2017, has been named chief operating officer, and will serve as the interim leader of the Association while a search for a permanent replacement is conducted.
"The board of directors would like to express its sincere gratitude and appreciation to David for the many contributions he has made as president and CEO," said Al Isaac, the YMCA of Central Kentucky’s Association chairman of the board and president of NAI Isaac Commercial Properties. "Under David's leadership the Y has increased its influence in the community and footprint across Central Kentucky.”
Isaac added, “We wish him nothing but the best as he takes this next step in his professional career."
“One of the many things David has accomplished here is building a strong leadership team. Every member of the team is committed to the organization and to our community,” said Paula Anderson, chief operating officer of the YMCA of Central Kentucky. “I’m confident we will continue our important work while the board finds the next great leader for this Association.”
Since Martorano’s arrival in 2013, the YMCA of Central Kentucky has grown from three Lexington-based YMCAs to six, with the opening of the Whitaker Family YMCA in the Hamburg area and the addition of the two Frankfort-based YMCAs, which joined the Association through the merger of the Frankfort and Central Kentucky associations in January of this year.
Martorano also secured a $1.5 million matching grant from Lexmark International for an expansion at the North Lexington Family YMCA, which was completed in January, 2016. Programmatically, during Martorano’s tenure, the YMCA launched a variety of special programs to strengthen the community, including the YMCA Power Scholars Academy in collaboration with Fayette County Public Schools.
In his new role as vice president Thriving Ys with Y-USA, Martorano will provide oversight for the development and delivery of resources to YMCAs across the country through a network of state alliances, YMCA alliance consultants, electronic supports and external firms, and will serve as the liaison between local branches and Y-USA. The role will concentrate on Ys needing focus and revitalization.
The YMCA board of directors will begin its search immediately for the next president and CEO in partnership with Y-USA.
