That’s a wrap on the 2022 YMCA of Central Kentucky Back-to-School Rallies in partnership with Fayette County Public Schools. Across twelve community locations, students and their families kicked off the 2022-23 school year with smiles, inflatables, role models, snow cones – and of course, backpacks stuffed with school supplies!
After two years of distanced, drive-through Back-to-School Rallies, the YMCA, FCPS, and sponsors were all too happy to host in-person events again. Over five thousand backpacks were distributed, helping ease the transition back to school for another school year for families.
The annual Back-to-School Rallies are supported by the generosity of our sponsors Setzer Properties, Academy Sports + Outdoors, and United Way of the Bluegrass. The C.M. Gatton Beaumont YMCA Barracudas Swim Team donated supplies. Dozens of volunteers of all ages and from various schools and organizations come together ahead of the rallies to stuff the backpacks full of the essentials.
“The way the community pulls together for this event is without a doubt the key to its success,” said Erin Andrews, program director at the YMCA of Central Kentucky. “As a small example, the Setzer Properties sponsorship is invaluable, but they also go above and beyond volunteering before and during the event, too. It's a wonderful illustration of the impact we can have on each other. Donations of time and treasure all add up and for the rallies, it’s for the kids in our community, which is particularly fulfilling.”
